The crankshaft belt pulley is the power source that drives other engine accessories, relying on the drive belt to operate the generator, water pump, power steering pump, compressor, and so on.

The initial design of the crankshaft pulley was to drive the camshaft, and the belt connecting them is called the timing belt.

The tensioner is a key component of the timing belt drive system; its function is to adjust the tension of the timing belt, ensuring that the transmission system is stable, safe, and reliable.

The advantages of pulley transmission include: it can mitigate load shocks; it operates smoothly with low noise and low vibration; its structure is simple and easy to adjust; it does not require as strict manufacturing and installation precision for pulleys as gear transmission does; it has overload protection functionality; and it has a larger adjustment range for the center distance between two shafts.

The timing belt is an important part of the engine's valve timing system. It ensures accurate intake and exhaust timing by connecting with the crankshaft and maintaining a certain transmission ratio. When the engine runs, the piston stroke (up and down movement), valve opening and closing (timing), and ignition sequence (timing) must always maintain 'synchronization' under the effect of 'timing'.
